Strategy Week in Marbella: Focus, Insight and Team Building
In the beginning of May, the Rockslice team spent a full and productive week in Marbella to define a clear strategic direction and priorities, strengthen our team culture, and prepare for the next phase of development. Joining us were our two brilliant interns — Thea Vignes from Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), and Nqobizizwe Thikazi from South Africa.
We are now entering an exciting and pivotal phase in our journey. The technology has been thoroughly tested and delivers results that exceed all expectations, both on concrete and stone. In close collaboration with our pilot customer Risa, we are now fully focused on developing our first product: an excavator rig designed specifically for the construction industry.
At the same time, we’re experiencing growing interest from other sectors, including deep ocean operations, offshore, and underground infrastructure – highlighting the broad potential of our technology. We’re truly grateful for the positive attention and excited about the opportunities this opens for future scaling.
To ensure the right product–market fit, we have recently secured fresh capital that will support the product's development and strengthen our position in the market.
During our stay in Marbella, we established a clear roadmap for the way forward, with a strong focus on product capabilities, delivery milestones, internal structure, and further insights work – all critical to developing a solution that truly meets market needs.
Beyond the planning, the trip also played an important role in team building and strengthening the team. As a young startup with a small but diverse team, building culture, connection and shared understanding is just as essential as building tech. Having Nqobizizwe from South Africa on the team brought valuable cultural insights that helped broaden our perspectives and deepen our understanding of each other. A shared understanding of our vision, values, and goals is essential to our success, and Marbella was a reminder of how valuable it is to invest in both.
The future looks bright - and we’re ready to deliver!
How it is to be an intern in Rockslice
“We’ve been warmly welcomed by the team and truly feel like part of it. During our internship, we’ve had the chance to take on a wide range of exciting tasks — from helping develop the website and writing grant applications, to budgeting and participating in meetings and more. The strategy session in Spain allowed us to get to know each other on a deeper level and gave us an even stronger sense of belonging within the company.
We've gained valuable insight into what it's like to be part of a startup, and we're taking with us experience and knowledge that will be incredibly useful going forward”
